Lark Sparrow continues in Hillsborough Township, Dec. 18, 2012

The Lark Sparrow found yesterday by Jeff Ellerbusch continues this afternoon in Hillsborough Township. The location is the hedgerow east of the driveway for Hillsborough Farm on Hillsborough Rd. The Lark Sparrow and accompanying White-crowned and other Sparrows can spend long periods hidden in the hedgerow so patience is necessary. The area is private property so please view from the side of the road.

There has been no report of the Lamington Ross’s Goose today. A quick drive past Randolph Rd. on Franklin Township did not reveal any Sandhill Cranes.

  1. Jimmy Lee says:

How far down the hedgerow was the lark sparrow? I and a couple of other birders were there between about 1:30 – 2:30 +. There were apparent White Crowns and white throats way down nearly at the end of the hedgerow. I couldn’t be able to tell a Lark Sparrow at that distance even with my scope. Too much wind and the birds were often in the shade. There were savanah sparrows in the hedgerow close to the road.

    • Jimmy, when the sparrows are cooperative, the Lark Sparrow has been seen at the end of the hedgerow closest to Hillsborough Rd. It can be a game of hide-and-seek. Some people have waited a lengthy amount of time before the Lark Sparrow appears.
