The day’s tally: 3 Rough-legged Hawks in the Great Swamp; 2 Greater White-fronted Geese in Somerset Co., Dec. 31, 2012

At day’s end and 2012′s end, three Rough-legged Hawks were seen on Pleasant Plains Road in the Great Swamp N.W.R. during the day. Jim Gilbert adds a light-phase to the other light-phase and one dark-phase that were observed throughout the day.

Another light-phase Rough-legged Hawk was reported from Duke Farms in Hillsborough Township earlier today.

No Rough-legged Hawks were seen at Black Meadows in Hanover Township, Morris County. Late afternoon into dusk had two adult male Northern Harriers (Gray Ghosts) hunting the marsh together along with a female/juvenile. No Short-eared Owls were witnessed.

There are at least two Greater White-fronted Geese in Somerset County. One, at the VA Hospital golf course in Lyons, and the other, assuming it is the same individual, going between Duke Island Park in Bridgewater Township and Duke Farms in Hillsborough Township.
