I saw two cedar waxwings yesterday afternoon at the Somerset County Environmental Education Center. They were doing their little courtship display too. It is always fun to watch a pair go back and forth in passing a food item (usually for several minutes) until one either eats or drops that item.

Speaking of towers, has anyone else noticed the HUGE ones being put up parallel to the road where Hillview Farm is in Gillette, and beyond? These towers don't quite look like the one in the picture but I think they are equally ugly :-( Anyone know about them or if they are part of the same line as mentioned? Just curious.

This really is awful.
I was talking with Pete Pacinski yesterday. He said the birds shouldn't have a problem moving into our area with the winds the way they are currently....blowing the wrong direction, but very light. According to accuweather, the High that has been playing full zone defense on us has moved above Maine. So hopefully we'll get SOMETHING in the next 2 days.

I'm trying to be optimistic.....hard as it magy be.

Jonathan, i know of 1 other whip-poor-will in Somerset County. I do not recall the date, but about 2002 I was releasing Screech Owls for The Raptor Trust up at Washington Valley Park (in the Hawkwatch parking lot) and had one call twice. Robert Blair
