35 Common Loons at Boonton Reservoir, 4-5-2011

At 3:45 p.m. a raft of 35 Common Loons was visible from the north end of Boonton Reservoir at the Reservoir Rd. walkway. This coincides with the Loon fallout at Swartswood Lake in Sussex County this morning (see “Bird Sightings” at http://www.sussexcountybirdclub.org/)

Besides the Loons, other birds present were:

Bufflehead – 4
Double-crested Cormorants – 5
Great Blue Heron – 1
Ring-billed Gulls -15

Lake Parsippany had 1 Common Loon. Also:

Common Mergansers – 55
Ruddy Ducks – 10
Double-crested Cormorants – 1
