Louisiana Waterthrush in Bernardsville, March 23, 2012

Joe Pescatore reports a Louisiana Waterthrush (LOWA) behind his house in Bernardsville this morning. In a migration season already becoming noteworthy for unusually mild weather and some early arrivals, this sighting is one for the local record book. The earliest date in the mocosocobirds region this writer can remember is a March 29 (approx.) arrival at Scherman Hoffman Sanctuary in the early 1990s (again approx.).

After this post was published, Joe informed me that eBird data has a March 26, 2008 arrival date of LOWA at Duke Farms making that the earliest known arrival before today’s.
