An adult Little Blue Heron (LBHE) was found at Ledell Pond in Mendham Township this morning. This is the 1st LBHE to be reported in Morris County since one at Bee Meadow Park in Hanover in 2009 according to the eBird database. There are only a handful of single reports from the Great Swamp in the last ten years and none since 2007. A single immature was seen at Speedwell Lake in Morristown in 2008. Also present on the pond are two Trumpeter Swan expatriates from Bernardsville who seem to have taken a liking to this Mendham locale. Wood Ducks are still fairly numerous on the pond. A pair, at least, of Green-winged Teal are also present. No migrants were in the surrounding woods.
