Dickcissel, Blue Grosbeak, Vesper Sparrow continue at Negri-Nepote; Heronry in Morris County, June 17, 2012

Joe Pescatore reports the continuing Dickcissel, Blue Grosbeak, Vesper Sparrow and Ring-necked Pheasant from Negri-Nepote Grasslands in Franklin Township early this morning.

The following picture is of the heronry located at Deerhaven Lake in the Newark-Pequannock Watershed (permit required for entry) viewable from Green Pond Road. There were 25 Great Blue Herons visible in the trees at the time of the photograph. Other species in this scenic area include Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Wood Duck, Pileated Woodpecker, N. Rough-winged and Tree Swallows, Red-eyed Vireo, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Ovenbird, Veery, Wood Thrush, etc.
