Buff-breasted Sandpiper in Somerset and Glossy Ibis in Morris continue, August 6, 2012

The Buff-breasted Sandpiper of Selody Sod Farm in Montgomery Township remained as of 3:45 p.m. in the back end of the plowed field off Skillman Lane opposite Highfield Road. This represents the first documented Buff-breasted Sandpiper for Somerset County. Congratulations to Jeff Ellerbusch for an excellent find. 9 Semipalmated Plovers, approximately 70 Killdeer and a Pectoral Sandpiper were also present. This morning, Jeff had a flyover Upland Sandpiper, 3 Least Sandpipers and a Semipalmated Sandpiper to add to the day’s total. The Upland Sandpiper flew out of the area.

The Glossy Ibis continues at Melanie Lane Pond as reported by Jamie Glydon. Construction on the soccer complex has begun (see this post). How this affects access to the pond in the future is unclear – creativity may be required.
