Semipalmated Plovers, Pectoral Sandpipers, Glossy Ibis, August 11, 2012

Jeff Ellerbusch and Simon Lane found a remarkable 21 Semipalmated Plovers at Selody Sod Farm in Montgomery Township this morning. As far as is known, this is the highest number recorded in Somerset County for this species. 2 Pectoral Sandpipers joined the 7 Least Sandpipers and 70 Killdeer present at the farm.

The juvenile Glossy Ibis continues this morning at Melanie Lane in Hanover Township. This individual has been here since August 5. 5 Green Herons, 5 Great Egrets and 1 Solitary Sandpiper were at the pond as well.

The weekend is the safest time to visit Melanie Lane wetland at the current time considering the major construction project occurring in the former grassy area.
