Migrants are scarce the previous few days. Jamie Glydon had a few species at Bee Meadow Park last Friday, Aug. 24 with Common Yellowthroats, American Redstarts and a Black-throated Blue Warbler.
An immature Northern Harrier coursed Florham Park Fields on Saturday, Aug. 25. Other than Tim Vogel’s birds at Jonathan’s Woods and Simon Lane’s Upland Sandpiper at Selody Sod Farm on Saturday, the weekend in Morris and Somerset Counties was noteworthy by how quiet it was.
The construction site at Melanie Lane in Hanover Township is active six days-a-week. Access to the wetland (Melanie Lane Pond) is of the creative nature but unproductive. Other than a multitude of Painted Ladies in attendance, the water level is too high and the vegetation too dense for any semblance of shorebird habitat.
This morning a handful of species appeared at Washington Valley in Morris Township with 2 Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, 2 Red-eyed Vireos, 1 Blue-winged Warbler, 4 Black-and-white Warblers, 2 Common Yellowthroats and 4 American Redstarts. A Black Bear along the grassy path parallel to Washington Valley Road paid a visit for the second time in two weeks. The weather forecast looks promising for Tuesday night into Wednesday morning with a cold front arriving.
