Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Kinglets at Troy Meadows; Connecticut Warbler and Bobolinks at Finderne Wetlands, Oct. 3, 2012

A late afternoon walk in foggy, humid and mosquito-filled Troy Meadows in Parsippany produced a pocket of birds including an adult Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Golden-crowned and Ruby-crowned Kinglets, Blackburnian, Magnolia, Yellow-rumped and Palm Warblers, a singing Purple Finch and a flyover Common Nighthawk. 3 American Kestrels, 7 Chimney Swifts, Savannah, Song and Swamp Sparrows and typical species of the area round out the list.

Jeff Ellerbusch reports 5 Bobolinks from Finderne Wetlands in Bridgewater Township. This is late for this species in Somerset County although nearby Cold Brook Preserve in Hunterdon County has records into the third week of October. Also found was a Connecticut Warbler which is the first known report of this species from Finderne.

I saw the Bobolinks on Saturday PM and Wednesday AM in the same location within Finderne. I am not sure how many, but it was more than 5
