Y8M9, origins of a Canada Goose, Jan. 12, 2013

A mocosocoBirds post from January 5 describes a Canada Goose with an orange neck collar and the code, Y8M9, found by this author on December 28 at Black Meadows in Hanover Township and then on January 5 at Loantaka Brook Reservation by Jamie Glydon. Tim Vogel apparently had the same bird today at Melanie Lane Wetlands which is north across Route 10 from Black Meadows. Both Jamie and I submitted reports to the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center. Today, we received the report of the origins of Y8M9.

Y8M9 is a female, banded on July 8, 2009 at Varennes, Quebec, Canada (coordinates: 45.75,-73.41667). This is a suburb, north of Montreal. She was too young to fly when banded. This makes her almost four years old in 2013. Here is a map showing her travels. From Varennes to Morris County is approximately 300 miles. We can only guess where she has been roaming since 2009.
