The path to the blinds on Long Hill Road had a single Eastern Phoebe. The Friends Blind was uneventful with Ring-necked ducks, Green-winged Teal, Wood Ducks, Canada Geese and Mallards.

Glenhurst Meadows, Warren Township – Eastern Phoebe, Tree Swallow – 3-15-2011

From Jeff Ellerbusch:

Birded Glenhurst this morning from 7:30 – 9:30. I am a little surprised at how quickly the water is receding especially along the paths. In about a week, barring another storm, Glenhurst will be prime Shorebird habitat. As for now, unless you want to swim, most of Glenhurst is still inaccessible. Besides Teal numbers the highlight was first of season Phoebe and Tree Swallow. Tree Swallow and a Bluebird already fighting over a nest box- funny seeing as there are about 7 others to choose from.

Waterfowl numbers + some highlights:

  • Canada Goose- 300-
  • Wood Duck- 12-
  • Am. Wigeon- 4-
  • Black Duck- 2-
  • Mallard- 25-
  • G-w Teal- 170-
  • Ring-necked- 75-
  • Hooded Merg- 1-
  • Pied-billed Grebe- 2-
  • Killdeer- 4-
  • Wilson’s Snipe- 6-11 (had 5 from the Garden P-lot an hour after I flushed 6 from opposite side of Glenhurst…could be same birds)
  • Herring Gull- 4-
  • Fish crow- 1-
  • Eastern Phoebe- 1-
  • Tree Swallow- 1
