Vireos and Warblers at Pleasant Plains Rd., Great Swamp N.W.R., 4-25-2011

Between 6:45 and 7:15 this morning the closed bridge at Pleasant Plains Rd. experienced the classic “trees dripping with birds” phenomena. The difficulty in the gray light was picking the other species out from the abundant Yellow-rumped Warblers.

Highlights:
Yellow-throated Vireo – 3
Blue-headed Vireo – 2
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher – 15
Ruby-crowned Kinglet – 5
Blue-winged Warbler – 1
Northern Parula – 2
Yellow Warbler – 10+
Yellow-rumped Warbler – bushels
Palm Warbler – 2
Black-and-white Warbler – 3
Common Yellowthroat
Orchard Oriole – male and female pair

Also:
Gray Catbirds – everywhere
Wilson’s Snipe – flyovers and heard winnowing from the old friends parking lot.
