Warblers, arrivals and Least Bittern, Morris County, 5/1/2011

The Tourne in Boonton Township this morning featured a very cooperative Cerulean Warbler as well as Nashville, Blackburnian, Chestnut-sided Warblers, Louisiana Waterthrush, Swainson’s Thrush and Red-eyed Vireo. The Cerulean, Blackburnians, and Chestnut-sided as well as many of the other species were encountered in the Oaks surrounding the small softball field near the main parking area and trail head. The Tourne and Jockey Hollow combined for 16 species of warblers this morning.
The Least Bittern at the overlook on Pleasant Plains Rd., Great Swamp N.W.R. continued calling today. Jim Gilbert (@JimGilbertPhoto) tweeted that it called for “two hours straight”. This author heard it at 6:08 p.m. for 10 minutes.

At 6:08 p.m. a Least Bittern sounded off for ten minutes from the Overlook.
