Friday Field Notes, Sep. 20, 2013

A Connecticut Warbler was found late today near the south end of the Meyersville Road Wilderness Trail, Great Swamp NWR (Simon Lane).

1 Killdeer, 1 Spotted Sandpiper, 1 Lesser Yellowlegs, 4 Least Sandpipers and 5 Semipalmated Sandpipers were at the D&R Towpath – Weston Canal Area of Somerset County today (Jeff Ellerbusch).

Two Yellow-billed Cuckoos were at Duke Farms today, as well as a Gray-cheeked Thrush, which was inside the Research Woods.

A Connecticut Warbler at the Whitehead Road section of Patriots Path in Washington Valley, Morris Twp. was seen again this morning. A Gray-cheeked Thrush was also reported (David Bernstein). Neither was relocated in the afternoon whereas a Wilson’s Warbler, American Redstarts, Magnolia Warblers and a Rose-breasted Grosbeak continued in the area (Jamie Glydon, J. Klizas).

The 2 juvenile Yellow-crowned Night-Herons and 1 juvenile Black-crowned Night-Heron continue at Jefferson Road in Parsippany (Julie Buechner).

The autumnal equinox is at 4:44 EDT, Sunday, September 22, 2013.
