Purple Finch, Vesper Sparrow, Oct. 14, 2013

A Purple Finch was a flyover at Duke Farms, this morning – probably the first of the season in Somerset County (Jeff Ellerbusch). Other highlights include White-crowned and other typical Sparrows and Eastern Meadowlarks.

At least one Vesper Sparrow continues at the Florham Park Fields (Chuck Hantis).

Below is a photo of a female Black-throated Blue Warbler by Dave Blinder taken at Loantaka Brook Reservation today.

  1. A case of mistaken identity – the sparrow in the picture on the emailed post is a Savannah Sparrow. It is removed from the web page for now.

  2. Grant Pric. says:

Had a male BT blue at my house in Warren on Sunday morning. They must be coming though a bit late.
