Yellow Warblers are trickling into the mocosocoBirds area with several reports today from Great Swamp NWR (J. Klizas), Griggstown Grasslands (Chris Duffek), Loantaka Brook Reservation (Joe Pescatore) and Melanie Lane Wetlands (Jim Mulvey, J. Klizas).
Linda Matula had a Blue-headed Vireo as a yardbird in Randolph, the first reported in Morris and Somerset Counties in 2014. Linda also adds the first Marsh Wren of the season from the Great Swamp NWR.
Neither the Little Blue Heron of Loantaka nor the Glossy Ibis of Melanie Lane Wetlands were reported today although people were looking for them. The Yellow-throated Warbler of Colonial Park was seen this morning (Jim Gilbert). Jim’s photo may be seen here.
This past weekend a Yellow-throated Warbler was photographed at Ravine Lake, Far Hills (Mike Anderson).
Melanie Lane Wetlands did have 3 Great Egrets, 10+ Wilson’s Snipe, 15+ Green-winged Teal, 3 Gadwall, Killdeer, 2 Greater Yellowlegs and 2 Lesser Yellowlegs, Yellow Warbler, 2 Rusty Blackbirds and lots of Swallows.

Red-headed Woodpeckers were found today at Lord Stirling Park by the dance floor (John J. Collins) and yesterday at Bee Meadow Park (Jill Homcy). The Bee Meadow Red-headed Woodpeckers were present through the winter.
2 Green Herons and 1 Black-crowned Night-Heron were at Green Brook Park in North Plainfield (Walter Blenderman).
A Red-breasted Merganser was with 11 Common Mergansers on the Raritan River viewed from the Delaware and Raritan Canal Towpath, Franklin Township (Jeff Ellerbusch).
