Bonaparte’s Gulls, Red-necked Grebe, other bird notes, Apr. 15, 2015

23 Bonaparte’s Gulls were in Lake Hopatcong north of Bertrand Island this afternoon accompanied by 4 Common Loons and 4 Horned Grebes. The Loon season on Morris lakes is winding down.


Budd Lake had 2 Common Loons, 2 Horned Grebes, 12 Buffleheads and 18 Ruddy Ducks (Alan Boyd).


Lake Musconetcong had a Red-necked Grebe, 3 Horned Grebes, 6 Pied-billed Grebes, 8 lingering Ring-necked Ducks, 60 Bufflehead, a Red-breasted Merganser and 3 Bonaparte’s Gulls (Alan Boyd).


Morris County’s first Solitary Sandpiper of 2015 was with 3 Greater Yellowlegs, 1 Blue-winged Teal, 1 American Wigeon, Green-winged Teal and Killdeer at the temprary pond on Beacon Hill Rd., Long Valley.
