(Note: The Tourne Sparrow Fields are located at the following coordinates: 40.912624,-74.447964 (DMS format: +40° 54′ 44.45″, -74° 26′ 51.62). The parking area is on what is locally referred to as Old Boonton Rd. but what on maps shows as Norris Rd/Old Boonton Rd./County 603 – take your pick. – JK)

A female Blue Grosbeak in 1st fall plumage was seen at 16:30 at the place being referred to as Sayre’s Farm on Mendham Rd. in Morris Township. Song, Field and White-throated Sparrows, numerous Palm and Yellow-rumped Warblers, Common Yellowthroats, and Ruby-crowned Kinglets, etc. were also present. Interestingly, I noticed on eBird that a Blue Grosbeak was also observed today by Rick Wright at Cold Brook Preserve in Hunterdon County.

Swamp Sparrows have arrived and are numerous in Washington Valley in Morris Township. Sayre’s Farm on Mendham Rd. continues to be a birdy place. Approximately 200 Am. Crows were noisily visiting the area as well as 13 Turkey Vultures, 2 Black Vultures, Red-tailed Hawks, Cooper’s Hawk and a flyover Merlin. A very stinky carcass or two has something to do with the Vultures’ presence. A Wild Turkey seen flying over the field is always an interesting encounter.

Song Sparrow – 10
Swamp Sparrow – 15
Indigo Bunting – 1
