Philadelphia Vireo, Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, Baird’s Sandpiper in Somerset Co., Sept. 10, 2012

Here are some of the highlights from Jeff Ellerbusch’s report from Chimney Rock this morning:

  • Black-billed Cuckoo
  • Yellow-bellied FlycatcherVery yellow individual- seen very well, by multiple observers, for 5 or so minutes.
  • Philadelphia VireoSeen very well, at point blank range, for roughly 3 min. This is remarkably the 3rd morning this season that a PHVI has been present at Chimney Rock- 9/6, 9/9, and 9/10. Whether this is the same bird as yesterday morning I don’t know…yesterday’s bird was a much briefer look, at a different angle, and the lighting was completely different.
  • Red-breasted Nuthatch
  • Swainson’s Thrush
  • Blue-winged Warbler
  • Black-and White Warbler – 4
  • Common Yellowthroat
  • Am. Redstart – 5
  • No. Parula
  • Magnolia Warbler
  • Chestnut-sided Warbler – 3
  • Black-throated Blue Warbler
  • Black-throated Green Warbler
  • Scarlet Tanager
  • Rose-breasted Grosbeak – 2
  • Purple Finch – 3

One Response to Philadelphia Vireo, Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, Baird’s Sandpiper in Somerset Co., Sept. 10, 2012

  1. Susan Treesh says:

I went back to Six Mile Run HQ very briefly before work yesterday (Sept. 10) and it looked like a banner day for flycatchers. Many phoebes, peewees, empids (of which I only id’d Least Flycatcher). Also had a chestnut-sided and a bt green. There was a very distracting, enormous feeding flock of waxwings the whole time. I finally had to stop looking at treetops!
