Ea. Meadowlark and Am. Pipits in Morris Co., Oct 10, 2012

An Eastern Meadowlark was found late this afternoon by Jamie Glydon at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Whippany. There are scant few reports for the county in 2012 as this species has practically vacated Morris County. Veterans Memorial Park is a proven Meadowlark location in October since 2010. Jamie’s records on these dates are:
7 on Oct. 20, 2010
2 on Oct. 21, 2010
1 on Oct. 26, 2011
1 on Oct. 10, 2012
Keeping with the pattern of 2012’s migration, October 10 is an early date.

The American Pipits continue at Briarwood Manor’s grassy field off Jefferson Road in Whippany. Jamie Glydon found 30 yesterday and at least 25 were present today.

Jamie also birded Sayre’s Farm in the morning. Ruby-crowned Kinglets, Tennessee Warbler, Common Yellowthroat, Magnolia, Palm and Yellow-rumped Warblers joined Savannah, Song, Lincoln’s, Swamp, White-throated, White-crowned Sparrows and 1 Purple Finch.
