Blue Grosbeak update, King Rail, Grassland Survey, May 27, 2013

There are apparently two Blue Grosbeaks at the Tourne Sparrow Fields. A young male with some blue on its head was seen and heard today on separate occasions by Chris Takacs and Jamie Glydon. This is a different bird than the all buff individual photographed on Saturday.

Jimmy Lee reports on the JerseyBirds listserv that the King Rail called again this afternoon from the overlook on Pleasant Plains Road, Great Swamp NWR.

A Grassland Bird Survey covering the Burnt Mills Road area of Branchburg Township was conducted this morning. Highlights were Bobolinks and Eastern Meadowlarks at 2 of the 8 points. A Northern Bobwhite called repeatedly from one field on the east side of Burnt Mill Road. All of the territory of the survey is private property.
