Two Yellow-breasted Chats continue on Pleasant Plains Road this evening (Simon Lane). One continues at the second speed bump; the other, between the south gate and the bridge past the headquarters driveway. The Morris Township Chat continues, as well. A Blue Grosbeak found this morning at Florham Park continues a modest local trend in Morris and Somerset counties for that species. It has become a remarkable season for both Yellow-breasted Chats and Blue Grosbeaks in the mocosocoBirds region.
Jim Mulvey found a Black-crowned Night-Heron at Best Lake in Watchung. Best Lake and neighboring Watchung Lake are as reliable as anywhere in Somerset County for this species. There are none reported in the eBird database for Morris County in 2013.
From Jennifer Books regarding Brood II: In case anyone is interested, there is a way to report cicada sightings this year. It is at magicicada.org. There is also a lot of interesting info on the brood there as well.
