Yesterday at noon, Richard Schrader found a Greater White-fronted Goose (GWFG) at the VA Hospital grounds in Lyons, Bernards Township. Sound familiar? Today, Mike Hiotis found a GWFG this afternoon at the equestrian field at Lord Stirling Park on Lord Stirling Road, Bernards Township – equally familiar sounding. Is it the same bird as last winter? There has not been time to check yet. The GWFG was still at the field with 450+ Canada Geese at 4:15 in the rain. John J. Collins reported a Cackling Goose yesterday from the same field yesterday, which may still be in the area.
Suddenly, there are Redheads. 5 were seen yesterday at a drainage area on Davidson Avenue in Franklin Township (Beth Scott). They continued there today (Jeff Ellerbusch). Another drake Redhead was found at the Amwell Road Pond (private property) in Hillsborough Township (Frank Sencher, Jr.). Apparently others are in the Hunterdon County reservoirs so this is a species to lookout for in whatever open water there is.
