Buff-breasted and Pectoral Sandpipers in Montgomery Twp., Sept. 8, 2012

Hey Jonathan,

This morning I was fortunate to find a Buff-breasted Sandpiper that was spooked with 4 Pectorals by a farm machine. They were distant in the scope in the southwestern end of the central fields looking from Skillman Road into the Selody Sod Farm. There were dozens of Killdeer present but I did not count the group which was dispersed throughout the property. Big thanks to J.E……

Philadelphia Vireo and migrants at Chimney Rock, Martinsville, Sept. 6, 2012

A good migration morning at Chimney Rock in Martinsville is reported by Jeff Ellerbusch.

White-eyed Vireo – a continuing juvenile
Philadelphia Vireo – Appeared within a small, mixed flock of warblers and REVIs, at roughly 9:10. Seen very well.
Red-eyed Vireo – 10 (at least)
Red-breasted Nuthatch – 2
Swainson Thrush – 3
Cedar Waxwing – 40
Black-and-white Warbler – 10 (at least)
Common Yellowthroat
American Redstart – 15 (at least)
Northern Parula – 10 (at least)

Lincoln’s Sparrow and other migrants at Glenhurst Meadows, Sept. 5, 2012

Hey Jonathan,
An afternoon stroll thru Glenhurst Meadows brought me a nice look at a vocal Lincoln’s Sparrow on the trail between the 2 ponds near the tower (the usual spot). It popped up nicely once then buried itself somewhere.

I came upon a few pods of Warblers incl; 4 Redstarts, 3 Northern Waterthrush, BTBlue, BTGreen, 3 Magnolia, Canada, Chestnut-sided & C. Yellowthroat+….

Flycatchers were well represented with 8+ Phoebes, 4 Pewees and 4 Traill’s types….

Shorebirds in Somerset Co., Sept. 5, 2012

Selody Sod Farm in Montgomery Township continues to be a local hotspot for mud/grasspipers. By this afternoon, the tally was 5 adult American Golden-Plovers, 3 Buff-breasted Sandpipers, 1 Semipalmated Plover and ~60 Killdeer.

At Weston Cross Way, Jeff Ellerbusch found another adult American Golden-Plover with 29 Killdeer.

Jeff viewed 4 Semipalmated Sandpipers from the D&R/Weston Canal area.
